Songwriter, singer, and bassist Kimon Kirk's first full-length album, Songs For Society, will be released on September 8th, 2011 at the Lizard Lounge. Kimon has played bass with such artists as Aimee Mann, Grant Lee Phillips, and Amy Correia, and was an original member of Session Americana. The new album was recorded in Boston and Los Angeles and was mixed by noted producer Paul Q. Kolderie and his cohorts at Camp Street Studios. Songs For Society is something of a pop-music throwback, touching on themes from the old west to 40's jazz, while remaining a rock n' roll effort at its core. It includes songs written with Mann, the former Til Tuesday frontwoman, and David Champagne and Jim Fitting, both of whom were founders of the seminal Boston band Treat Her Right. Kimon and his band the Meds, comprised of guitarist Lyle Brewer (Sarah Borges, Ryan Montbleau), keyboardist Jamie Edwards (Aimee Mann), bassist Joe Klompus (Letters to Cleo) and drummer Andy Plaisted (Tim Gearan, the Giant Kings) promise an evening of uncompromising musicality and style.
Joining Kimon and the Meds on the bill are two other noteworthy Boston artists, Ramona Silver and Lyle Brewer, each of whom is releasing a new album as well. Silver, an uncommonly talented fixture on the Boston pop and rock scene, presents Small Circle Of Light, her first album in over six years. Her band includes Jamie Edwards, Andy Plaisted, and Kimon Kirk.
Lyle Brewer releases his first album, Music To My Fears, an instrumental batch of songs that showcases the young phenom's wide-ranging talents on both electric and acoustic guitars. He will be joined by the dead-solid rhythm section of bassist Dean Cassell and drummer Mike Piehl.**
