FIRST FRIDAY Music Series @ Galeria West Art Gallery
Hundreds of area music lovers have enjoyed the popular FIRST FRIDAY Music Series concerts, presented by TEATRO Si at the intimate Galeria West Art Gallery, located at 111 Quimby Street in downtown Westfield, NJ. This once a month live concert event continues to bring to you a unique opportunity to enjoy a diversity of music genres as performed by a select series of acclaimed international artists. The FIRST FRIDAY events continue on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 7pm with a special evening of Latin Caribbean percussion rhythms and more with the internationally acclaimed percussionist Robert Quintero and Friends. Roberto Quintero was born in Caracas,Venezuela,where he was surrounded by Afro-Venezuelan and Afro-Cuban rhythms and music. His father, a respected composer, singer and percussionist in his native country tutored and encouraged Robert on percussion through his adolescent years. Roberto comes from a long line of outstanding musicians which includes his uncle Carlos Nene Quintero and cousin Luisito Quintero. Roberto studied at the conservatory of music in Caracas-Venezuela and with the Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenil de Venezuela. His percussion technique soon garnered attention from his peers. He became part of the acclaimed and popular music ensembles Grupo Madera and Oscar D'Leon, where he enjoyed worldwide exposure. Besides being known for his skillful congas ability, Roberto also plays bongos drum set, djembe, timbales and wide variety of assorted percussion intruments. His in demand technique has allowed him to perform with Dave Samuels, Dave Weckel, The Chicago Group, Bobby Watson, Bobby Sanabria, Steve Khan, Diana Schuur, Angelia Kijod, Miguel Zenon. Richard Bona, Gato Barbieri, David Sanchez, Roy Hargrove, David Sanchez, Eddie Palmieri, Jack de Johnette, RoyHaney, John Pattuchi, Marc Anthony, Timbalaye, Celia Cruz and many other high-profile music acts. Roberto is also dedicated to music education by conducting Latin jazz seminars and master classes in the United States and abroad. We invite you to join us often during the year to celebrate the arts in a unique setting. We recommend that you consider enjoying a fine meal before or after the concert at one of the fine eateries in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within a short walk from the gallery. Proceeds from each event benefit theatrical programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c) 3 New Jersey not for profit corporation.
