SALOME
Strauss' well-known and controversial opera. There are no "arias" per se, and no catchy melodies. The entire opera is 100 solid minutes of rapturous music, with no obvious breaks for applause and no intermission. The opera is based on the play of the same name by Oscar Wilde. Wilde based the play on an obscure Bible story. From the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and starring Erika Sunnegardh, Mark S. Doss and Robert Brubaker. Sung in German with English subtitles. Running time 1 hr 40 mins with no intermission.
