BRAHMS & SIBELIUS
The beautiful choral writing of Johannes Brahms is well-known to most Seattle audiences through his beloved Requiem and numerous part songs. This program features works by Brahms for chorus and orchestra rarely performed in the Northwest, "Nanie" (Lament), "Gesang der Partzen" (Song of the Fates) and "Schicksalslied" (Song of Destiny)and pairs them with a classic of the symphonic literature, Sibelius's Second Symphony, a bold, unconventional work for its time. Led by accomplished American conductor, Jayce Ogren, Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers open their 2011 - 2012 Season with a continuing commitment to bringing exciting, excellent, affordable performances of classical music to Seattle area audiences.
