Floyd Collins
Music and Lyrics by Adam Guettel, Book by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau, Additional lyrics by Tina Landau
Directed by Meghan Randolph
In 1925, Floyd Collins, a cave explorer from Kentucky, became trapped underground while exploring uncharted territory. In the days that followed, an intense rescue mission ensured, and tens of thousands of people flocked to the spot where he was trapped. His suffering soon became a tourist attraction. The event became one of the most widely publicized events of the twentieth century, though it is unknown to most Americans now. Tony winning composer Adam Guettel (grandson of Richard Rodgers) brings this fascinating story to life through this revolutionary work, which continues Music Theatre of Madison's effort to produce one show per year that is unknown to most of the Madison public.
