Music Video Class with Patrick Kriwanek Presented by Scary Cow
How to really really really make a music video! At the world-famous, Academy Award winning theater, the Saul Zaentz Media Center in Berkeley
This class will be a complete nuts and bolts survey on music video production and the creative process from start to finish. This is an indispensable class for Directors, but all department heads and various crew will find something of interest and value here!
Topics will include:
- Finding and cultivating bands and artists, how to wrangle a music video making opportunity - Initiating the creative process and work with management on the image of the band in the video realm; who gets to have input on the treatment - Writing treatments for the 3 different kinds of videos: performance, narrative, and hybrid - Proper contractual and payment arrangement protocols of the industry - Bringing together the right team - Managing pre-production, bringing everything in under deadline - Shoot days on a music video set - The secrets of playback sync - What makes a compelling edit of a music video - How to get paid, collect the money, and know what leverage you have - What happens to the finished product
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Patrick Kriwanek has produced and directed 58 music videos; 17 videos for MC Hammer and bands he represented, compilation videos for NWA, Ice Cube and Ice T, videos for 40 other bands, and behind-the-scenes documentaries for Smashmouth and Def Leppard.
In 1983, he was the first director in Northern California to produce and direct a video which played in heavy rotation on MTV.
He taught world-famous directors Chris Milk, Colin Tilley, and Kreayshawn, and cinematographers Joe Labisi, Robb Witt, and Justin Potter.
His students have produced 4 videos for Kanye West, 3 for U2, 4 videos for Justin Beiber, 3 videos for 50 Cent, 3 videos for Puff Daddy, 8 videos for Chris Brown, 2 videos for 30 seconds to Mars, Kreayshawn and videos for more than 50 other major artists.
Students of Patrick's are currently nominated for 5 MTV Music Video awards. Watch this year's show on August 28th, 2011!
