konic Thtr - Before the Beep
before the beep refers to the changes of perception in interpersonal communication mediated by new technologies, and to the spaces that this mediation generates. The piece confronts the body with these same communication technologies, and explores how these re-write the body and change our understanding of place and the idea of presence, redefining narrative, individuals and culture. We understand the installation space as a visual and sound universe open to be revisited and activated by the moving body, through its technological membrane. The microspaces, offer various points of view of the same show and a multiplicity of readings proper to contemporary communication, connected by the projected images and music generated in real time from the inputs of the performers and the audience. The audience can participate in several ways: through the use of technology in-situ, from their mobile phones, or interacting directly with motion sensors.
Chez Bushwick, Production Partner: Before the Beep_NY, would like to thank the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation for their support which contributed to this production.
