Kirk's Monkeyface Eel/Low Tide Adventure Tour
This is a tour for the novice poke-poler and intertidal enthusiast who wants to learn some of the nuances of coastal fishing and foraging. The beauty of poke-poling is that it places you smack dab in the middle of the intertidal ecosystem. So this tour isn't just about the monkeyface eels. We are sure to see all kinds of intertidal life forms some edible, some not. We will discuss rules and regs, history of fisheries, health concerns, gear, how-to info, intertidal ecology and much much more. This tour is a great way to get your feet wet (literally) as a California coastal forager. But even though I usually get eels in this spot, there is no way to guarantee success--it's still called fishing, not catching. Another thing. I know I have said this a few times here before but I must make it clear. I am the only person allowed to fish on my tours. So that means, no one else is allowed to bring a fishing rod or poke pole out on the rocks. That said, you are welcome to fish and poke-pole till your heart's content once the tour has ended. Dress for rugged conditions, and be forewarned: this is a tour for people with a good sense of balance and the ability to scramble around on slippery rocks. For more details go here: http://seaforager.com/tours/3b-tours/index.html Note: For The Monkeyface Eel Poke Poling Tour you absolutely must come equipped for wading. That means either a wetsuit or a pair of chest waders. Hip waders are okay but not great. Footwear must be more rugged than a pair of wetsuit booties. I myself wear a pair of old hiking boots over my waders socks. I have had a few tough souls go with shorts and old sneakers, but prepare to spend 2.5 hours shivering and wet if you want to go that route. (Be advised: the annual mussel quarantine is in effect till Nov. 1st)
