The Marvelous Wonderettes

The Jewel Box Theatre's new 2011-12 Season will get off to a fun-filled start when it presents the popular musical "The Marvelous Wonderettes" by Roger Bean. The all-female musical revue, featuring classic hits from the 1950s and '60s will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from Sept. 9-Oct. 8. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. are scheduled for Sept. 18, 25, Oct. 2 & 9. The show is being directed by Sharon Greany, who previously directed the hit musical Sweet Charity at the Jewel Box.

The place is Springfield High School, and the people are: Missy, Cindy Lou, Betty Jean and Suzy. It's 1958 and the senior prom is in crisis. The Crooning Crab Cakes cannot perform because their leader was suspended for smoking near the locker room. Luckily, the Wonderettes are able to step into the breach. We learn about the lives, loves and dreams of these four fabulous women as they sing through classic hits from the 1950s. In Act Two, we find the girls at their 10-year reunion still singing, dreaming and dealing with life's key changesall to the popular tunes of the '60s. The talented cast includes Vanessa West (Cindy Lou), Amanda Morey (Betty Jean), Erin Abbott (Missy) and Anna Borer (Suzy).
