Floating Points: Volume (IV)
Volume (IV) is an improvising quartet featuring electroacoustic harpist Shelley Burgon, turntablist Maria Chavez, laptop artist Stephan Moore and electroacoustic flutist Suzanne Thorpe. Individually these players are singular voices in the New York scene. Together they create an inimitable sonic entity, luminous and enigmatic, without obvious exit or entrance points.
For their Floating Points residency, they have engaged a number of visual artists to rearrange ISSUE Project Room's signature 15-channel hemispherical speaker system, designed by Stephan Moore. Each night, a visual artist will create a new arrangement of the speakers, performers, and audience. Throughout their residency, their improvised sounds will be recorded and played back through random speakers, the recordings segmented and shuffled. When they are not in the room, the accumulated recordings may be played back as an installation.
