Tara Betts: a master class
"Changing a line or playing with a sentence can alter the meaning and tone of a poem. Write new poems and consider how certain poems use the arrangement of lines and sentences for evocative, effective writing, with model poems by writers like Nikky Finney, Sterling Plumpp, Aracelis Girmay, and Lucille Clifton." ~ A Master Class with Tara Betts
Betts, a Chicago native and recipient of the Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Poetry Award, was named one of Essence magazine's 40 Favorite Poets, sharing company with poets Lucille Clifton, Gwendolyn Brooks and Tracey Smith. Martin Espada says, "Tara Betts is a poet who pays exquisite attention to the world. It's high time the world repaid the favor."
