Songs of Pioneer Women
SONGS OF PIONEER WOMEN is a special Kansas Sesquicentennial offering of Grace Cathedral and the GREAT SPACES Music and Arts Series. SONGS OF PIONEER WOMEN is a staged compilation of first-person narrative, folk song, art song and operatic aria that culminates in a new work, Forrest Pierce's "Cassie Leaves Nebraska", designated "an operatic trio." Much of the music is written since 1950 three living composers, Andre Previn, Libby Larsen and Pierce, are represented. Created and directed by Sylvia Stoner, SONGS OF PIONEER WOMEN features a new composition by Forrest Pierce, and is performed by Ellen Bottorff, pianist, Sharon O'Connell Campbell, mezzo-soprano, Sylvia Stoner, soprano and Sarah Tannehill, soprano.
