Saturday Family Concert: Portuguese Fado: Helder Moutinho
Helder Moutinho, one of Portugal's best-known fadistas, plays and talks about Fado (traditional and contemporary) and the Portuguese guitar in an intimate workshop setting. Fado music is the heart of the Portuguese soul. It is arguably the oldest urban folk music in the world. Some say it came as a dance from Africa in the 19th century and was adopted by the poor on the streets of Lisbon. Or perhaps it started at sea as the sad, melodic songs coaxed from the rolling waves by homesick sailors and fishermen. Presented with the Seattle International Children's Festival and sponsored by KEXP 90.3FM and ParentMap. This concert is appropriate for children seven and older and their families.
