aWay Station: An Afternoon with Project Space Artist Donald Fortescue
Join sculptor and Project Space artist Donald Fortescue to explore works created during his August Headlands Project Space residency. While at Headlands Fortescue called upon local colleagues as collaborators to create a collection of hand-whittled objects made from woods from Marin County and his homeland Australia. His final installation at Headlands intends to rework, present and interpret the carvings as archeological objects.
The afternoon begins in Headlands' East Wing with a brief presentation and an opportunity to experience one of Fortescue's over-sized stereoscopes, a 19th century 3D imaging device. Next Fortescue hosts an open salon discussion in his Project Space studio. Expect to investigate the subtle connection between hand, tool and natural material; the separate but parallel viewpoints of art and science; and the many dimensions of Fortescue's work. Stay for a homemade, organic brunch in the Headlands Mess Hall Cafe.
