Romantic Masters: Choral Motets By Mendelssohn, Bruckner, & Brahms
The Seattle Choral Company continues its 30th anniversary with a feast for the musical palate!
"Romantic Masters: Choral Motets by Mendelssohn, Bruckner, and Brahms" will herald the arrival of spring with lush choral sounds of nineteenth-century German romanticism heard in the spacious acoustics of Seattle's Saint Mark's Cathedral.
Performances are: Friday, March 30, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
The program will feature the following sacred choral works:
Felix Mendelssohn "Aus der Deutschen Liturgie" (From the German Liturgy) "Kyrie" "Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe" (Glory to God) "Heilig" (Sanctus)
Felix Mendelssohn "Drei Kirchenmusiken, Op. 23" (Three Sacred Choruses, Op. 23) "Aus tiefer Noth, schrei' ich zu dir" (In deep distress I cry to Thee) "Mitten wir im Leben sind" (We are in the midst of life) "Ave Maria" (Hail Mary)
Anton Bruckner "Three Motets" "Tota pulchra es" "Locus iste" "Chistus factus est"
Johannes Brahms "Zwei Motetten, Op. 74" (Two Motets, Op. 74) "Warum ist das Licht gegeben" (Why is light given to the weary?) "O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf" (O Savior, tear open the heavens)
Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Abendlied, Op. 69, No. 3 (Evening Song)
At both performances, concert attendees are urged to arrive one hour before the start of the program. Docents from the Seattle Choral Company will be on hand to provide information and exhibits about the concert program.
