Sac Open Studios 101: How to Document Your Work
At this workshop, Diana Jahns will demonstrate simple and effective techniques for artists photographing their work at home or in the studio. Artists are encouraged to bring their camera if they have one. Please keep in mind, expensive or professional cameras are not required. Cameras functions and lighting techniques will be discussed. Participants will be able to ask questions at any time during the demonstrations and workshop.
Since 1982, Sacramento artist and photographerDiana Jahns has been photographing her own artwork to create a portfolio in order to apply to galleries and shows. In those years she used a mid-level point and shoot camera and film.
In 2002, she bought her first digital camera and enrolled in a Photoshop class. In 2004 she started up a professional photography business. Today she regularly photographs artwork for artists, as well as offering a range of photography services to the community.
Diana uses photographs of her artwork to market and promote to galleries, apply to juried shows, submit to online venues, and post to social media. As well, she sells large format prints from the photographs of her artwork.

Schedule
10:00-11:00 AM: Techniques for photographing two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork with DSLR cameras, point 'n shoot and camera phones, and using natural light, will be discussed and demonstrated with time for participant questions.
Diana will discuss and demonstrate inexpensive studio lighting with photo studio lighting. Next, she will take a picture of the subject then invite the group to follow her lead using their own cameras.
11:00-12:00 PM: Techniques for processing digital photographs for artists will be discussed. Image editing software like Adobe Photoshop and alternatives will be introduced. Image file formats will be discussed.
