A Shot in the Dark: Program A
We are turning off the power for two weeks! In this Festival and environmental initiative, The Tank is celebrating innovative performance that utilizes self-sufficient and alternative energy sources. Artists are using everything from glow tape to flashlights to a bike-powered generator to shed some light on their work. Program A is a variety show featuring a dance piece with a bike-powered generator and Dancing in the Dark!
Secus Rota, the premier collaborative work of Soluq Dance Theater, harnesses the power, effort, and cycle of dance, light, and bike power in a thirty minute suite, twisting through struggles and emotion to the edge of the human spirit. Partnering with Little Black Bike, Secus explores a new performance environment by creating a totally self-powered and performer manipulated lighting environment that constantly shifts and changes. Libretti's lighting design sends the dancers through a dense emotional landscape as diverse and complex as the environment they inhabit, a combination of dance and light that merges sustainable theater practice with the art it supports.
Dancing in the Dark: gloom by Gotham Dance Theater
Follow Gotham Dance Theater through the darkness and witness the existence of the supernatural from ancient folklore to modern day encounters. gloom is performed without conventional lighting or sound. All energy sources are self-sufficient or battery operated.
gloom is directed by Marc Andrew Nuñez and Jessica Rabanzo-Flores and features choreography in heavy collaboration with dancers: Davonna Batt, Lyndsay Dru Corbett, Savannah Cross, Corry Ethridge, Julien Frei, Chantalle Herrera, Vivake Khamsingsavath, and Olivia Oro.
gloom also features musician Rann Golamco.
