Basic Structures: Understanding the Picture Book Form with Phil & Erin Stead
826michigan is proud to present a new installment in the "How to Write Like I Do" writing workshop series for adults:
Basic Structures: Understanding the Picture Book Form with Phil & Erin Stead Sunday, September 25 1pm-4pm 826michigan (115 E. Liberty St. in Ann Arbor, MI) Tickets: $25 in advance, $30 at the door
Picture books can be wildly different from one another in theme and tone. Yet their underlying structures remain the same. In this workshop, participants will explore the restrictions of the picture book format, then develop a simple story arch to fit within the most common format, the 32 page book. This workshop will include a question and answer session with the author and illustrator.
Philip C. Stead and illustrator Erin E. Stead are the co-creators of A Sick Day for Amos McGee, which was awarded the 2011 Caldecott Medal, the Charlotte Zolotow Honor for excellence in a picture book text, and was selected as a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of 2010. Philip and Erin live and work in Ann Arbor.
All proceeds from the "How to Write Like I Do" series directly benefit 826michigan's free tutoring and creative writing programs for students aged 6-18 in southeastern Michigan. For more information on 826michigan, please visit us at www.826michigan.org.

Q&A
Question: |
I have a book ready to revise and this would be perfect for me. Unfortunately, I have symphony tickets for that afternoon--how unfair! Is there any chance they will do this again, somehow, sometime? |
Answer: |
I wish we could be certain of that, but there are currently no plans to offer another workshop with the Steads. If demand allows and they are willing, we'd love to consider it in the future. |
