A 21st Century Design Manifesto with August de los Reyes
This talk is about radical common sense. It introduces a unique vision for 21st Century Design. It combines principles of the Enlightenment with contemporary social thought to challenge people to re-think the role of design in business and society. The central argument will encourage the abandonment of organizational and technological and creative superstitions for a new set of principles that enable the individual to create solutions that address the challenges of our era. Topics include vampires, werewolves, starfish, bamboo shoots, video games, and natural user interface.
Designer, writer, and educator, August de los Reyes works as design director for the product design firm, Artefact. Before joining Artefact in 2010, August spent nearly eight years at Microsoft, where he worked on Windows, MSN, and Search and was the Director of User Experience for Microsoft Surface. August holds an MDesS with Distinction in product design from Harvard University and maintains an affiliate faculty appointment at the University of Washington's Division of Design.He is a member of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), Interaction Design Association (IXDA), and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA.)
