Country Cabarette
Country Cabarette-rounding up great musicians to put a country spin on the standard cabaret.
Dust off your cowboy duds and put your dancing boots on for the Country Cabarette-a country spin on the standard cabaret. On Saturday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m., Playhouse Arts and the Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise will round up Cadillac Ranch, the Lonesome Roses, Jacqueline Dandeneau, Rose Armin-Hoiland, Halimah Collingwood and Steve Irwin others for a rodeo of good times. There will be a chili cook-off, raffles and drinks.
All funds raised at the Country Cabarette will be used for the extreme makeover of the Arcata Playhouse. In the spirit of community giving the Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise has taken on the Arcata Playhouse as a project for an extreme makeover or as they like to call it, a "SWOT Operation" (Serving With Our Talents)." In a two phase project Rotary and the Playhouse will work together to accomplish a variety of tasks meant to both improve the overall aesthetic of the Arcata non-profit venue and address some of much needed electrical upgrades.
The first phase of the makeover involved a 10 day shutdown of the Playhouse from June 6-16 and focused mainly on an electrical upgrade of the theater lighting systems, painting, new curtains and a redesign of the concessions area.
The second phase of the project will take place August 15 through the 26th and will focus on the concessions, lobby and office areas. Both organizations will be coordinating volunteer labor and acquiring materials donations for the project as well as fundraising efforts.
The Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise is a community service organization made up of local business and professional leaders who are also a part of the more than 29,000 other Rotary Clubs in 161 countries. ( www.arcatasunrise.org).
In their fifth year as a community arts organization, the Playhouse has proven itself to be a great addition to the Arcata and Humboldt County cultural scene with exceptional music, theater and variety performances. The Playhouse is also known for its family performance series, youth workshops and teen programs. (www.arcataplayhouse.org)
