MALLARME CHAMBER PLAYERS' 2011-12 SUNDAY SERIES CONCERTS are guaranteed to satisfy chamber music lovers of all influences and tastes. This season's programming represents music from around the world, and also compositions penned right here in our beautiful state of North Carolina. Cherished baroque concertos and cantatas are balanced by intriguingly contemporary offerings which span the musical hemisphere and culminate into an impressive concert season that you can mix & match any way you choose*.
Decide how you'd like to experience Mallarme Chamber Players -- use one ticket for each of our five Sunday Series concerts, or invite a group of friends and use your tickets for one show -- it's totally up to you. With our Season Flex Subscription Package*, you receive five (5) tickets to use in any combination that makes sense for you and your schedule
*: Flex Subscription Packages containing five (5)physical tickets will be mailed via US Postal Service from Durham, NC. 9/25 | MUSICAL MAGYARS Music by Franz Liszt, Leos Weiner, Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly, Gyorgy Kurtag and Ernst von Dohnanyi. Program of classic and contemporary Hungarian music, featuring cimbalom player Petra Berenyi. VENUE: Kirby Horton Hall - Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham.
10/23 | WONDER WOMEN In partnership with The Nasher Museum of Art exhibition: "Deconstructive Impulse - Women Artists Reconfigure the Signs of Power, 1973 - 1991". Music by Libby Larson, Joan Tower, Thea Musgrave, Sofia Gubaidulina, and a WORLD PREMIERE by composer Gwyneth Walker, "Language of the Soul", for string quintet and trumpet. VENUE: The Nasher Museum of Art - Duke University, Durham.
02/05 | HISTORICAL BACH REDUX Baroque music...authentically! Historical performance practices and instruments bring the music of J.S. Bach to life, including Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Cantata No. 79. In partnership with The Choral Society of Durham's Chamber Ensemble. Rodney Wyncoop, conductor. VENUE: St. Joseph's Hall - Hayti Heritage Center, Durham.
04/01 | THE VIOLA (IS NOT A) JOKE! Celebrating the hidden gem of the orchestra -- the viola -- on the biggest practical joke day of the year, April Fool's! An afternoon of music for solo and multiple violas will answer the age-old question, "how many violists DOES it really take to play a concert?" VENUE: University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill.
05/06 | EDGING THE CUT (7:00 PM) Cutting-edge "contemporary classical" music performed in one of Durham's newest music halls, Motorco. Featuring music by Duke University composers, including Scott Lindroth, John Supko, Oscar Bettison, and D.J. Sparr. In collaboration with New Music Raleigh. VENUE: Motorco Music Hall, Durham.
