Fundamentals of Landlord-Tenant Law for Artists
As the recent developments at the 619 Western Ave Building have shown, the space used by artists is critical to their work and can be vulnerable to disruption. Whether it is a workshop, studio, gallery or performance space, as an artist it is likely that you are leasing space that is essential to your work. There are many myths out there about what landlords can and can't do, so as a tenant, it's crucial to know your rights and how to exercise them. In Know Your Rights: Fundamentals of Landlord-Tenant Law for Artists, attorney and real estate professional Sean Flynn will answer your questions about landlord-tenant law, from as general as "what's the difference between a commercial and residential lease?" to as specific as "how can I get my damage deposit back?". On the other hand, perhaps you rent workspace to artists. This workshop will also cover landlord rights and obligations, with a focus on understanding how following the rules of landlord-tenant law fosters a working environment that is mutually beneficial for all parties involved, whether you are renting out your garage or an entire building.
Whether you are an artist or an attorney who represents landlords or tenants, this Workshop will be an excellent introductory seminar for learning how to understand and resolve landlord-tenant issues. Sean Flynn is a principal attorney at Burke Street Law PLLC whose practice areas include Landlord-Tenant and Real Estate Law. He is also real estate professional and licensed broker who has been in the real estate industry for over a decade. He also personally owns and manages several residential properties in Seattle.
