Intimate Grammar at the Mandel JCC's Leonard Krieger Cleveland Jewish FilmFest
Israel, 2010, 107 minutes Hebrew with English subtitles Director: Nir Bergman
Nir Bergman's film adaptation of David Grossman's novel, The Book of Intimate Grammar, won Best Israeli Feature at the 2010 Jerusalem Film Festival. Thirteen-year-old Aharon is a sensitive, lonely boy whose romantic ideals are at odds with everyone and everything around him. With his bar mitzvah on the horizon, Aharon dreads being initiated into the world of adults as much as he desires to grow into one. Bergman brilliantly captures the atmosphere of Israel in the post-Holocaust early 1960s, as the country was itself coming of age.
