JEWISH WOMEN'S THEATRE: A Salon Theatre Series
Los Angeles based Jewish Women's Theatre (JWT) seeks out accomplished writers, encouraging them to explore their Jewish identity and create from their hearts. By establishing a home for such material, JWT expands the view of Jewish women and furthers Jewish culture.
The Salon Theatre series (it's the third season at the OFJCC) includes three shows:
"Temptation" - A delicious and dangerous discovery of secrets of Jewish women in this shocking and surprising show that will surely evoke laughter and tears, but most of all, remind you how seductive temptation can be. (February 1, 2016, 7:30 PM)
"Jacob's Dilemma" - Ripped from the pages of our sacred text and reimagined for the modern age, this hilarious and provocative show of newly commissioned pieces explores yearning, betrayal and loss, and just might upend your preconceptions about the bible. (March 21, 2016, 7:30 PM)
"Chutzpah & Salsa" - Our sisters south of the border serve up funny, poignant and pivotal moments in their lives as they share what it means to have a Latina heart and a Jewish soul. (May 30, 2016, 7:30 PM)
We believe that theatre begins with the written word, and therefore, ours is to be a writer's theatre and the play is to be the genesis of all our work. To this end, we nurture the development of material that might not be created without our solicitation and support, seeking out accomplished writers and encouraging them to explore their Jewish identity and create from their hearts. We believe that by establishing a home for such material, JWT expands the view of Jewish women and furthers Jewish culture.
