Arts Gumbo - Explore Korea
On Saturday, September 3, Arts Gumbo - Explore Korea will take place from 5 10pm and will feature regional performers, Korean Taekwondo, food demonstrations and buffets, a paper-folding workshop for kids and Korean filsm.
Morning Star Dance Troupe features regional music and dances of Korea with traditional costumes and instruments. Kids of God Choir features music students of Han Woo Ri Mission Church.
Taekwondo performances will feature Senior Taekwondo Master Ki Seung Cho, a graduate from Cho Sun University Korea, who was handpicked by the founding Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee to train in and teach Songham Taekwondo in the United States. A special guest greeting ceremony by Representative Cindy Ryu (D-32nd) will open the event.
At 7:30pm the event will feature a Korean food (Kim Chi, Korean BBQ and Stir Fried Noodles)and a rice cake exhibit. A art exhibit from members of the Korean-American Art & Cultural Association will be on display during the event and a Korean paper-folding workshop for kids will be held after the performances. At 8:30pm, two films will be screened, starting with Korea Be Inspired (20 min), followed by the popular drama Dae-Jang-Geum (Jewel in the Palace), based on a true story about a legendary girl (Jang-Geum) who became the first woman to be the supreme royal physician during the Chosun Dynasty.
Explore Korea is co-presented by SEEDArts and the Korean-American Art & Cultural Association (KCACPN) of the Pacific Northwest.
A companion exhibit of professional artwork entitled Contemporary Korean Art will be held at the Columbia City Gallery, 4864 Rainier Av. So. Seattle 98118) from August 10 through September 25.
