Ta-Nehisi Coates presents Between the World and Me
Thursday, October 15, 7:30 PM Ta-Nehisi Coates presents Between the World and Me In conversation with James Bennet of The Atlantic Tickets $24 (includes pre-signed book) Part of the Brooklyn Voices Series presented by Greenlight Bookstore and St. Joseph's College
In the past few years, America has been forced anew to confront its abuse of the black body: exploited to create the country's foundational wealth, violently segregated after a civil war, and, today, still disproportionately threatened, locked up, and killed in our streets. What is it like to inhabit such a body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with our country's fraught history and free ourselves from its burden?
Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates's attempt to answer those questions, presented in the form of a letter to his adolescent son. Masterfully woven from lyrical personal narrative, reimagined history, and fresh, emotionally-charged reportage, Coates's work offers a powerful new framework for understanding America's history and current crisis, and a transcendent vision for a way forward.
Coates discusses his work with James Bennet, editor in chief and a co-president of The Atlantic, where Coates is a national correspondent.
