Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling is a female-fronted duo of drums/vocals and bass, whose band name and songs are all inspired by the '60s cult spy-fi TV show The Prisoner. These 2011 Rock N' Roll Rumble Semifinalists are arty, minimalist rock working in the realm of proto-punk/new wave/no wave bands and dark songwriters like The Velvet Underground, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and PJ Harvey. On Friday 7/22/11, they'll not only be performing but also premiering the second video from their debut EP, a steamy cover of Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan." The video is directed by Glenn di Benedetto, who is also performing on the bill with the dusky, romantic lounge pop and art rock outfit, Parlour Bells. Parlour Bells has an all-star live lineup, featuring Nate Leavitt of The Blizzard of 78, drummer Brandon Erdos of The Luxury and This Blue Heaven, bassist Brendan Boogie and keyboardist Magen Tracy of St Helena. Their lyrically rich songs evoke the musical storytelling of indie anthem acts such as Arcade Fire, but with the sexiness and theatrics of David Bowie. Kicking off the evening will be the soulful and powerful young voice of Merrily James, who has performed with such legends as Smokey Robinson, Linda Ronstadt, and Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind, & Fire.
