For 22 years, the Guild Literary Complex's annual Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award has recognized emerging poetic voices from across Illinois. That tradition continues with an award program and live reading from 20 semi-finalists and special guestsand the audience will choose the $600 winning poem!
More party than reading, Chicagoist says of the event, "If you only attend one poetry reading a year, it might as well be the Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award." Reception to follow.
The program is co-hosted by Toni Asante Lightfoot and Quraysh Ali Lansana, and this year takes place at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts (915 E 60th Street). The Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award is co-presented with the Logan Center.
