Hudson & Harlan
On Saturday August 13, 2011, Brian Hudson & Matt Harlan are returning to the Rear Window Listening Room; Matt for his third appearance, and Brian for his second. This time they are coming as a summer tour duo. Both of these two are excellent as solo acts, and each of them is a stellar guitarist. I am looking forward to hearing them back each other up on their instruments as well as some vocal harmonies. This promises to be a really great evening!!!
Born and raised in Texas, Harlan soaked up the richness of the state and its song-smiths while bouncing between its big cities and small towns. On his debut, Harlan exposes this range of influences, interpreting a generation steeped in plastic yet filtered through the Hill Country limestone. His expressive vocals recall Chris Smither and Chris Knight, shading his poignant songs with soaring heart and aching grit.??Matt's songwriting has been getting some recognition lately with awards from the Billboard World Songwriting Contest, American Songwriter Magazine, the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival, Snowbird Mountain Music Festival and as a Regional New Folk winner at Kerrville.
Brian Hudson is an Austin, TX based singer/songwriter. As half of the original folk band, The Hudsons, Brian had a productive eight years of music-making. He and his band mate, Hudson Mueller, played with some fine musicians like the Belleville Outfit's Phoebe Hunt, Wall Street's Jason Vopni, and Los Angeles's Leah Zeger. They held a steady gig for most of their time as a band at Austin's Waterloo Icehouse at 6th and Lamar. They won two-years-in-a-row the University of Texas/Kerrville Folk Festival college songwriting award during their tenure at UT-Austin. They were featured main-stage acts at a variety of festivals around the USA and Canada including Kerrville Folk Festival, Live from the Rock, and Cornstalk. They played some prestigious folk music venues including the Cactus Cafe, Gruene Hall, the M-Room, Anderson Fair, the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe, the Mucky Duck, Threadgill's, and many others. They released three full-length albums (which received spins from Austin's KUT, KO-OP, and KVRX, Houston's KPFT, Bryan's KEOS, Duluth's KUMD, and even CBC-Ontario) and produced a handful of music videos in New York and Austin with MTV's the Sniper Twins.
