Directing Class with Patrick Kriwanek Presented by Scary Cow
Nuts and Bolts of Directing a Low Budget Film at the world-famous, Academy Award winning theater, Stage 2 of the Saul Zaentz Media Center in Berkeley.
This directing lecture will concentrate on the pragmatic, granular, moment-to-moment reality of moving from conception through all phases of production: - location scouting and the securing of locations - crewing up - the casting process - vision elements with the choice of the Director of Photography - working with the Art Departments - coordinating of all the departments in the days before the shoot - leadership of the cast and crew on set - tracking of dailies and reshoots during the shoot - the editorial process - director's responsibilities in marketing and distribution
There will be 30 minutes of Q&A at the end of the lecture, and Patrick Kriwanek will be available for an additional hour after 10 PM.
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Patrick Kriwanek has been a Producer/Director for 35 years and began his career with 58 music videos for MTV. He has directed commercials for Levis and 200 other clients, and has done 2 pilots for Fox Television, including "The American Muscle Cars" pilot.
He has written five screenplays, and has been teaching feature production for 17 years.
He currently owns and is the Dean of The Berkeley Digital Film Institute in Berkeley
In addition, we will be giving tours of the facility at 6:30 PM that same day. The Saul Zaentz Media Center is home to one of the most respected production companies in the history of film: The Saul Zaentz Company.
The Saul Zaentz partners have won 3 Academy Awards for Best Picture; "Amadeus", "The English Patient", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" In all, their company has won 22 Academy Awards for these films, and others. They are currently participants in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of The Rings" films with Peter Jackson. Berkeley Digital occupies the entire second floor of this building.
