Exodus To Jazz: The Kenny Garrett Quartet
Throughout his illustrious career, saxophonist Kenny Garrett has garnered numerous Grammy nominations and acclaim from peers, music critics and the general public. His career ascent began when he joined the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1978; memberships in other legendary bands included the Jazz Messengers and the Woody Shaw Quintet. Garrett came to prominence during the 1980s as Miles Davis' sideman for almost five years. In 1984, he recorded his first album as leader, Introducing Kenny Garrett. Besides Miles Davis, Garrett has performed with many jazz icons including Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, McCoy Tyner, Pharoah Sanders, Brian Blade, Bobby Hutcherson, Ron Carter, Elvin Jones, and Mulgrew Miller. Special Concert Features: - Garrett's good friend and fellow Detroiter, Johnny O'Neal opens the concert with solo piano tribute to Hank Jones. - Patron Ticket holders are invited to the "Meet & Greet" with the musicians at 7:00PM.
