Event
August on Argyle
Chicago Chapter members and guests go to Argyle Street for an in-depth day of discovery of the varied Chinese and South East Asian cultures and cuisines found along this strip of Argyle and Broadway. We will visit a tofu factory to learn about this simple, nutritious food, have a demonstration of Peking Duck and Chinese BarBQ, meet a baker who combines French pastry techniques with ancient Asian techniques and taste some of the cross-cultural examples. We will spend time in a Vietnamese grocery, discussing at length the many unusual offerings and how they are used, as well as their historical and culinary significance. Plan to do your shopping for any of these hard-to-find ingredients we will have a cooler on the bus for purchases. Our lunch will be specially composed of some of the more unusual menu items at a popular Thai restaurant, where we will also discuss the traditional street foods of Asia.
