THE GOLEM
The Imaginists Theatre Collective Presents Project 104 in
THE GOLEM An original adaptation October 7 - 22, 2011
The Imaginists Theatre Collective presents a multi-media, original adaptation of The Golem based on the famous Jewish legend. It's the stuff of dreams and, some would argue--reality: the legend of Rabbi Loew of Prague and the Golem he created from the clay of the Vlatava River. In 1580 the Jews of Prague, forced into a walled ghetto "for their own protection," faced persecution and death at the hands of anti-Semitic mobs. To protect his people, Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel, chief Rabbi of Prague, brought the clay man to life.
Hand puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, and hand-drawn animations bring a city and its people to life. Fantastic, mysterious, with as many versions as there are sightings of the Golem himself, this story has a life force equal to that of its subject. Who wouldn't create a Golem (if only one could)--to fight off the school bully, to free the unjustly condemned, to keep peace and harmony by his watchful presence?" These and other stirring questions abound in the Imaginsits theatrical, haunting version.
