Will Franken's "Dieter und Sheila At International Youth Hostel"
Will Franken returns to the theatre (as opposed to the comedy clubs) for his first theatrical performance (i.e., crazy sound cues, lighting cues, unexpected entrances and exits, props, etc.) since 2007's highly-successful "Grandpa, It's Not Fitting!"
Think comedy show meets Pink Floyd. . .
If you haven't seen what Will Franken can do in a theatre with 90 minutes to himself and a qualified sound/light technician, this is only one of two chances to see him do so.
Friday, the 29th of July, Will Franken presents "Dieter Und Sheila At The San Francisco International Youth Hostel" -- the title taken from his latest piece about a thwarted love/sex story between a shy Austrian etymology student and a promiscuous Australian girl. Dieter wants to get close to Sheila, but the blokes from Down Under have first dibs on her. All is unrequited confusion until the hostel's resident physician, Dr. Herringbone, explains to Dieter the Australian Phenomenon of Sexual Propinquity -- like two drops of mercury on a horizontal surface will invariably congeal into one substance, whenever an Australian girl is in the same hostel as blokes from back home, she must have her thighs groped by them. The only hope for Dieter is to cease being Austrian and become AUSTRALIAN. . .it's a multicultural romp of hilarity.
Other comedic dishes this evening include the only twice-before-performed "Conference Call Between A Can of Coke and A Bottle Of Seagram's" -- Will Franken's hysterical homage to Ernie Kovacs and Monty Python. As well as "Noam Chomsky Argues Westminster Abbey Out of Business", the love song "You Are The 'O' In San Francisco", and much, much more.
