The Drowsy Chaperone
A musical within a comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone takes you into the apartment of the "Man in Chair" as he goes through his record collection to escape his blues. He finds his record, "The Drowsy Chaperone", and guides the audience through as the story "comes to life" inside his apartment. In a hilarious send-up of musical theatre from the 1920s, Robert Martin, a handsome bachelor is about to marry Broadway star Janet Van De Graaff, who has to choose between him and the stage. However, the producer Feldzieg will do all he can to stop the wedding from happening, so she can return to his "Follies". With gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, an absent-minded old lady and her uptight British butler, a dim witted yet surprisingly clever chorus girl, a high-strung best man, a Latin Lethario, and a chaperone who spends more time drinking than chaperoning, the plot is full of hijinx and mistaken identities.
