A Carlin Home Companion
Return Engagement of Kelly Carlin's Sold-Out Show! Through storytelling, classic video footage, and family memorabilia, Kelly Carlin, the only child of iconoclastic comedian George Carlin, chronicles over 40 years of her life with her famous father. A funny, poignant and honest look at the man who not only redefined 20th century comedy, but inspired generations of comedy fans with such classic routines as Hippie Dippie Weatherman, Class Clown, The Seven Dirty Words, A Place for Your Stuff, and Modern Man.
Kelly, host of the radio show Waking from the American Dream, author, and well respected storyteller, reveals what it was like to be swept up into the life and career of her father from his early days as a straight comic through his transformation into a counter culture hero and iconoclastic social commentator to the very last days of his life.
As a young girl, Kelly showed her many gifts early on - from writing and performing (her Ethel Merman imitation was quite good for an eight year old) to fostering wisdom far beyond her years. Well, someone had to keep the "counter-culture" and all its party favors from killing her parents Brenda and George Carlin.
She began her showbiz life working in TV production for her mother and father on various shows for HBO (read - production assistant who does all the Xeroxing). In 1993, at the not-so-ripe age of 30, Kelly graduated from UCLA, Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Communications Studies which led to a brief career in writing for film and TV. With her writing partner and husband Robert McCall she penned the Rose McGowan b-movie thriller Devil in the Flesh, plus an episode of Fox's The George Carlin Show.
In the late 1990s, she wrote, produced, and hosted Lost in LA LA Land on the earliest online comedy channel Comedynet, and wrote and performed a one-woman show: Driven to Distraction, about her tumultuous childhood and her mother's recent death.
Currently, she is busy with numerous projects. She hosts a weekly radio show, Waking from the American Dream at NewDissidentRadio.com where she converses with comedians, authors, visionaries and artists about the comedy and tragedy of life. She is also writing and performing personal essays for audiences all over, conducting interviews with legendary comedians for Laugh.com's On Comedy CD series, and having a blast talent producing for Showtime Network's The Green Room with Paul Provenza. In the fall of 2011, after a benefit production at Santa Monica Playhouse and a brief stint at the Montreal Comedy Festival in July, she will be taking her one woman show A Carlin Home Companion on tour (www.TheKellyCarlinSite.com).
