Peck's Book/Plate Featuring Jonathan Weisman, author of "No. 4 Imperial Lane"
Book/Plate, a literary/culinary series in partnership with Peck's Homemade, pairs new books with complementary cuisine for an incomparable dinner with the author. For August, Book/Plate welcomes Jonathan Weisman, a seasoned political reporter, whose debut novel No. 4 Imperial Lane is a coming-of-age story as lush and evocative as it is deeply funny. When a drifting American student in the late 1980s takes a job as a live-in aide to a quadriplegic former playboy in Brighton, he is drawn into the complex history of a fallen aristocratic family, which stretches from the sleepy Algarve Coast in Portugal to the African revolutions in Mozambique, Angola, and Guinea-Bissau. Peck's takes on the challenge of the multi-continental love of food that runs through the novel, from Portuguese heads-on shrimp to West African fufu, Angolan funge, and British chippie fare. Join us for a riotous journey through fiction, food, and the global landscape of the late 20th century in Peck's Brooklyn backyard.
