MARTIN SEXTON, REBIRTH BRASS BAND, EUFORQUESTRA, THAT I GUY AMONG HEADLINERS TO PERFORM AT 2011 TC SUMMER MICROBREW & MUSIC FESTIVAL

GT Pipes & Drums and Jam Rek West African Drummers Also Scheduled to Perform; New Silent Disco Tent Added; Early-Bird Weekend Passes On Sale July 1-14

Over 50 breweries, a cider, mead and wine court, a new silent disco tent and a musical lineup including chart-topping folk rocker Martin Sexton, Grammy-nominated New Orleans brass brand Rebirth Brass Brand and festival funk favorites Euforquestra will be featured at the 2011 Traverse City Summer Microbrew & Music Festival August 26 & 27 at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Martin Sexton, the popular crooner behind such hit songs as "Diner" and "Glory Bound," previously played a sold-out show in Traverse City at the City Opera House in early 2010. An incendiary performer who frequently sells out venues ranging from LA's House of Blues to Carnegie Hall, Sexton's soulful combination of blues and folk rock has earned him the praise of everyone from NPR to Billboard to the New York Times. John Mayer called him "the best live performer I've ever seen."

Fellow festival performers Rebirth Brass Band have been crowned the "undisputed kings of New Orleans brass brands" for their Grammy-nominated musical stylings. The group's most recent album, "Rebirth of New Orleans," reached number one on the CMJ Jazz charts earlier this year. Their signature brand of heavy funk has not only won over several generations of music lovers, it's become the soundtrack of an entire city. Other acclaimed musical guests and previous festival favorites including Afro-Cuban funk outfit Euforquestra, musical "mad scientist" That 1 Guy, Celtic marchers Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums, area Jam Rek West African drummers and more to be announced will round out the festival weekend lineup.

New this year to the festival is a silent disco tent, a party installation that's gained massive popularity at such acclaimed music festivals as Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. The silent disco tent allows up to 200 festivalgoers at a time to dance to music broadcast via a FM-transmitter to wireless headphones worn by participants, giving the effect they're dancing in silence. Popular local DJs and sponsoring local music venues will trade off spinning music every hour all night Friday and Saturday in the silent disco tent during the festival.

The TC Summer Microbrew & Music Festival launched in August 2009, drawing nearly 3,000 attendees in its first year. The festival was so successful that organizers expanded the event to two days last summer, drawing nearly 5,000 attendees and inspiring a spin-off winter version. The event is billed as a "celebration of craft beer, local harvest and live music." The festival has raised over $20,000 for local non-profit Little Artshram through its summer and winter events to date.

This year, the festival will kick off on Friday, August 26 from 5-10 p.m. with a "Pint Night"-themed evening featuring a headlining performance by Martin Sexton on the Historic Front Lawn at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. In addition to Sexton's concert, attendees will enjoy performances from Euforquestra, Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums and Jam Rek drummers, as well as $3 pint specials from a variety of renowned craft breweries, the silent disco tent, and food and merchandise vending areas.

The second day of the festival on Saturday, August 27, will feature an expanded festival experience from 4-10 p.m. with over 50 breweries and 200+ flavors of beer, cider, mead and wine, live music from Rebirth Brass Band, Euforquestra, That 1 Guy, Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums and several more acts, plus $1 tasting tokens for 7-oz sample pours (a commemorative festival cup and 5 tokens are included with admission), a variety of local food vendors and brew-friendly pub grub, an MSU Extensions Educational Tent featuring workshops on beer-related topics, the festival's popular Hop 'N Brew tasting shack, and special partner activities and events.

Tickets to the 2011 TC Summer Microbrew & Music Festival go on sale Friday, July 15 at Oryana and Zamar Guitar and online at www.porterhouseproductions.com. Tickets are $30 in advance/$35 at the door for Friday and $40 in advance/$45 at the door for Saturday. For two weeks only, beginning Friday, July 1 through Thursday, July 14, a special early-bird weekend pass admitting purchasers to both nights of the festival will go on sale exclusively online at www.porterhouseproductions.com for $55  a savings of $15. The weekend pass is only available July 1-14, and can only be purchased online. Beginning July 15, weekend passes will no longer be available and individual passes to each day will go on sale separately. The festival is open to attendees ages 21 and up.
