BARBARA VAN ORDEN - "From This Moment On"
Barbara Van Orden will make her third trip to the desert with her cabaret concert style show "From This Moment On" on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2 PM, at The Arthur Newman Theatre located in The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. She's had previous successes at both Dink's and Blame It On Midnight in Palm Springs, but audiences just can't get enough and keep bringing their friends who become instant fans. The former print and model and commercial actress turned singer, opened for headliners such as Milton Berle, Don Rickles, and Red Buttons in the Catskill Mountains and all the Playboy Clubs for Buddy Hackett, Morey Amsterdam, Soupy Sales, and more. Moving to the West Coast brought Barbara a recurring role on TV's Welcome Back Kotter and guest star roles in feature films, TV series and variety shows. But she never left her singing roots and frequently opened in Las Vegas showrooms for headliners which is where Frank Sinatra saw her during Shecky Green's show and asked her to open for him at New York's Persian Room at The Plaza Hotel.
Next came Barbara the wife and mother and show business took a back seat. But as her family grew up Barbara re-discovered her business sense and quickly found success in the world of real estate investment. Later she combined the two and became a personal manager, guiding the careers of other actors and performers. Always looking for new challenges led Barbara to other successful careers including: children's book author, a clothing line designer for executive women, a film and documentary writer and producer, a university lecturer and motivational speaker, a newspaper columnist, and as a radio talk show co-host.
As life seems to always come full circle, it seemed inevitable that Barbara do the same. So working with musical director Ron Snyder, who will be playing the baby grand for this performance, she came up with a cabaret style one-woman musical that incorporates songs from Broadway, popular music, and the Great American Songbook to interweave with her life story as well as a few of her friends and pals from her past. The show is being presented by Les Michaels as part of the Life Is A Cabaret Sundays In Summer Series at The Arthur Newman Theatre in The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. Ms. Van Orden's July 3rd - 2 PM show, "From This Moment On" will mark the 50th show presented so far, with all dates pre-booked through till November.
