EDDIE MONEY Labor Day Weekend!
We are sorry to announce that the Eddie Money show at Put-in-Bay scheduled for September 4, 2011 has been cancelled. Advance ticket holders will receive a full refund.
To quell rumors about the reasons for this cancellation, I would like to give you the background of the situation.
Our company produced a series of concerts at and around Put-in-Bay this season featuring internationally known performers including Santana original lead singer Gregg Rolie and Charlie Daniels. These events were intended to enhance Put-in-Bay's status as a premiere vacation destination, and provide reasonably priced, family-friendly events.
We were surprised to find that some local interests failed to see any advantage in bringing these world-class performers to the locale, or how these family-oriented events could boost the island's reputation, not to mention the economic stimulus from additional visitors. Opposition to the events was reflected in the actions of the Village government, such as one council member who publicly vowed to "stop this at all costs".
By means of various technicalities and a newly enacted "sound ordinance" that seems to contain clear violations the United States Constitution, the political machinery effectively stifled advertising and promotion of the shows, and forced the Charlie Daniels show to be moved. The promoters were forced to spend their time and money on lawyers instead of advertising and promotion.
We had hoped that a resolution to these problems could be found in time for the Eddie Money show, but the promoters and the non-profit organization sponsoring the shows have decided that there is no way to satisfy the Village requirements or change the venue, and adequately promote the show at the same time.
It is unfortunate that the local reaction was so unsupportive, but doors have been opened for future events, and even some of the naysayers eventually admitted that the events were not the calamity they had predicted. Anyone who attended one of our shows can confirm that they saw an excellent performance by top-notch professional musicians, with great sound that was never even close to "too loud", held in a comfortable, safe, and well-equipped environment. The only complaint: "why didn't more people know about this show?"
We are saddened that this concert has been cancelled, but we are still hopeful that the issues with Put-in-Bay as a location for premium entertainment can be resolved for future seasons.
Thank you for your support of the concert series, and we look forward to producing future events that bring joy to all involved.
