Slip of the Tongue - TWO MORE SHOWS ADDED!
A night of three solo performances and two short films that use humor and drama to explore sexuality, familia, culture, identity, speaking out, and other "slips" of the tongue.
PERFORMANCES: "Calzones Cagados" Written & Performed by Sara Guerrero A missing bike, saggy hand-me-down "chonies", a pubic toupee and a divorce.
"When Song Leaders Go Bad" Written & Performed by Elizabeth I. Szekeresh An ex song leader's exploration of race, sexuality and mental illness told with cheers and posters...GO TEAM!
"Rocks in My Salsa" written & performed by Cristina Nava Contemporary life in Los Angeles. Somewhere between Chicana and Mexican. Where chicken and an orgasm become taboo. You hold a rock while grandma held a bible and self discovery happens at the bottom of a dirty martini glass.

SARA GUERRERO is the founding Artistic Director of Breath of Fire. She serves as a faculty member for South Coast Repertory's Youth Conservatory, a Teaching Artist and Board Chair for Fringe Benefits, and their Board Chair. She is a recipient of the Women Making a Difference Award and was named "Best [Artistic] Director" by OC Weekly. She has served as the Associate Artistic Director for Teatro Indigena and Resident Playwright for the Education Outreach Program for L.A. County, She received her BFA from California Institute of the Arts Theatre Acting Program under the mentorship of Fran Bennett. Sara has directed, performed, and taught for theatres and organizations in Los Angeles, Orange County, Seattle, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, New Mexico, and Minnesota. Through BOFLTE she has directed, produced and collaborated on many new works and world premieres, including: directing Angel of Desert by Janine Salinas (South Coast Repertory's Studio Series) and Executive Produced, Digging Up the Dirt (a See-What & BOFLTE co-production 2010 written and directed by CherrĂe Moraga.
ELIZABETH I. SZEKERESH is a founding member and Co-Managing Director of Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble. She is a writer, performer, producer and filmmaker. Elizabeth has been a member of Latina Collectives for the past ten years. Her short film It's a Pleasure (2005) screened at film festivals across the country. Elizabeth's solo performance When Song Leaders Go Bad was performed in 2006 at BOFLTE , Highways Performance Space, at 2010 ATHE conference, Washington & Lee University (2011) and 2011 MALCS Summer Institute. Elizabeth produced Angel of the Desert by Janine Salinas (South Coast Repertory's Studio Series 2011), Associate-Produced CherrĂe Moraga's Digging Up the Dirt (a See-What & BOFLTE co-production 2010), Co-Produced Mel Nieves's WAC Iraq (2008) and an Assistant-Directed Jose Casas' 14. Elizabeth is co-writer of The Mexican OC (2006).
CRISTANA NAVA is a producer, writer and actor. She has acted in films since 1992 and began writing in 1993. She stepped into the role of director and producer in 1999. Her experience in producing and directing dozens of stage productions and one-acts over the years has translated into film with her roles as producer for the short films "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Salsa Lessons". She Associate-Produced the short film "Red Phoenix". Most recently she produced a hybrid Docu-narrative film titled "Mitos, Ritos y Tonterias" a Spanish-Language video about the negative effects of familial oppression and homophobia within the Latino community, due to be released Summer 2011. Cristina is in pre-production for a feature film "Lola's Love Shack". www.lolasloveshackthemovie.com
