SEASON FINALE CONCERT WITH THE EMILIA DAHLIN QUARTET
Deertrees continues to have the good fortune to have special ties with this amazing Maine singer-songwriter, EMILIA DAHLIN, so our 79th Summer would not be complete without an evening with Emilia and her Quartet. Their range of musical talent and ability to keep their "Acoustic Roots with a Vintage Jazz Twist" is incredible! This concert will close out Deertrees 2015 Summer Season and leave you wanting more from both the theatre and the EMILIA DAHLIN QUARTET!!!
Born on a small farm south of Boston to a musical instrument collecting father and accordion playing mother, Emilia was destined for a life of music. She started piano, formally, at the age of five and trained classically for the next thirteen years. It was Christmas day, 1996, when Emilia decided she wanted to play the guitar. She went up to the attic, pulled out a warped and worn guitar, that once belonged to her great grandfather, and started to play. She never stopped.
Now, wielding a voice that defies the size of her body and strong storytelling sensibilities, Emilia Dahlin has carved out her name as a unique songstress. She weaves mesmerizing tales (complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods, and tax evaders) with raw, rootsy folk and dynamic jazz vocals. Her well-crafted songs sound as if they've been left outside where time and weather have worn cracks for the wind to whip through. Her sky-rocketing energy is delivered with honesty.
Emilia performs in many permutations, from solo to quartet. Her longtime band-members are Adam Frederick or Justin Maxwell (upright bass), Max Cantlin (lead guitar), and Seth Kearns (drums and percussion).
Emilia's a performer-turned-community organizer. Returning from a pilgrimage of global service that took her to sustainable and intentional communities around the world, she returned to New England to co-found The Transcendence Project with Deb Bicknell, which uses music as medium for building community locally and globally.
