The Normal Heart
Mauckingbird Theatre Company is proud to present a staged reading commemorating the 30th anniversary of Larry Kramer's groundbreaking play The Normal Heart. Starring Philadelphia favorites Keith Connallen, Jeff Coon and Dito van Reigersberg, The Normal Heart opened off-Broadway in 1985 and was one of the first plays to address the AIDS crisis that was decimating the gay community in the early 1980s. Activist Ned Weeks finds love for the first time in the midst of the battle of his life as he endeavors to turn the New York mayor's office and the Reagan administration's inaction into action in battling a terrifying new disease that is killing scores of his friends. Kramer's classic work is a stirring and powerful testament to the men and women on the front lines of one of the greatest health crises in the history of the United States. August 29 - 7:30 p.m. and August 30 - 2:00 p.m., Randall Theater, 2020 N. 13th Street, Philadelphia. www.mauckingbird.org (215) 923-8909. Tickets $10
