LINDA KOSUT in NEW YORK with Acclaimed Oscar Brown Jr Tribute Show!
Linda Kosut CD RELEASE TOUR with the Max Perkoff Band - LONG AS YOU'RE LIVING - A TRIBUTE TO OSCAR BROWN JR.- the show and CD RELEASE come to New York for a second time around.
Don Heckman, LA Times says "Linda Kosut finds her groove in Oscar Brown Jr.'s music. The singer hits all the right notes on her 'Long as You're Living' tribute to the musician."
Many folks ask "Who is Oscar Brown Jr.?" "Why are you doing his music?" Some of you remember him and others might not; Linda has been inspired by his life, his music and mostly his words, great wit and mission "To deliver messages which swing, and entertainment which is meaningful."
Oscar was a singer, songwriter, actor, poet --- a Renaissance man, sometimes called the "grandfather of rap." He left a huge body of work - Linda says "I can only show you a small piece of it. I leave it to you to discover the rest."
Richard Harrington of the Washington Post in his obituary of Oscar, wrote " ... entertaining and serious, melding soul, jazz and musical theater into a body of work that always deserved far more recognition than it got."
Both CD and show have been receiving rave reviews:
"This album is almost like a collaboration. She is a singer of great ability. The organic strength of her voice is deftly wielded" - Maxwell Chandler, JazzReview.com
"This is hardly your conventional cabaret act. The sense of drama is something that this performer can call upon, and when she does, the act is at its most engaging. The show is a welcome reminder of the multi-faceted work of the man who proudly defied being categorized by one kind of music. Linda Kosut doesn't seem to have much interest in being labeled either."- Rob Lester, CabaretExchange.com, New York
