JapJAP
Tearing down borders and tearing off clothes, JapJAP's body is her only roadmap as she embarks on a journey through identity, culture, and history. Winner of the "Audience Choice Award" (FRIGID, 2011) and Montreal's Gazette #1 pick for the 2011 Fringe Festival, JapJAP is a "thoughtful, smart and insanely creative piece" (Charlebois Post). Come join award winning playwright/performer Una Aya Osato ("Best Female Solo Show" for Recess, SF Fringe 2009), for the Bay Area premiere of this politically, visually, and emotionally provocative full-bodied one-woman show: JapJAP.
Una Aya Osato (writer/performer) press has called her "an Olympic shape-shifter[with] freakily flexible dramaturgical hands," and giving "chameleonlike bravura performance." She was born and raised in NYC and works as a performer, writer and educator. Una has performed her own work (Recess, JapJAP) and the work of others in an array of venues nationally and internationally, from theaters, to classrooms, to community centers, to prisons.
Moises Belizario (director) for over two and half decades has worked professionally as a writer, director and actor in film, television and theater. He is currently the Artistic Director of the nationally acclaimed CityKids Repertory Company in NYC. In addition to his years of directorial work with Una, and at The CityKids Foundation, he is also in development on a new Broadway musical.
