COLLAPSE by KDT Company Member Allison Moore
"'Moore skillfully builds her comedy as much as from character and evolving situations as she does from jarring juxtapositions of topic and tone...As therapeutic as Moore makes it to laugh at the characters' complex problems - and attendant therapies - by the end, they've earned their compassion.'" -San Francisco Chronicle
The Play: Hannah is desperately trying to hold the facade of her perfect life together, even as her husband mysteriously calls in sick to work day after day. The couple struggles with infertility, and Hannah herself is on the verge of being laid off. When her sister appears on their doorstep, she brings with her a feisty, renegade attitude and an illicit package that sends the family on an odyssey into some of the quirkier corners of Minneapolis and into the heart of their deepest fears. This comedy about surviving and transcending was inspired by the 2007 collapse of the Mississippi River Bridge in Minneapolis.
The Playwright: Allison Moore's work has been developed or read at the O'Neill Playwrights Conference, Williamstown Theatre Festival, InterAct Theatre, and the Manhattan Theatre Club; and produced at KDT, Actor's Express, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and The Playwrights' Center, among others. Ms. Moore has received two Jerome Fellowships, a McKnight Advancement Grant, and the Iowa Arts Fellowship.
