Spoon River Anthology
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Edgar Lee Masters collection of poems entitled 'Spoon River Anthology' the stage production presents a selection of his poems as monologues with American folk music sprinkled throughout. The collection of narratives tells the story of the fictional town of 'Spoon River' as the epitaphs of its citizens that Masters wrote to demystify turn of the century rural small town American life. After the debut at the Booth Theater in New York in 1963 the New York Times described the show as 'a glowing theater experiencea brooding and loving American folk poem brought to life on the stage.' Sisu Arts, Inc. and The Guild Theater company are pleased to present this show as part of their effort to bring forth the best of the classic American theater canon.
