Poetry+Motion: Freedom!
Audiences are accustomed to words with music, or music and dance, but they seldom get to experience the direct, visceral reaction between words and motion. This is the aim of Poetry+Motion. This third Poetry+Motion event has Freedom as its theme. While the first two performances featured African American writers and dancers, this event has been open to all poets and dancers in the Seattle area.
Dancers were selected by audition. After the poetry submission deadline, selected dancers received a PDF file containing all the submitted poems, but without the name of the poet. They each selected up to four poems that inspired them then created a dance to go with that poem. The poets and dancers will rehearse together and then present their poem and dance to an audience at a performance on July 17, 2011.
