IN THE NEXT ROOM, OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY by Sarah Ruhl
"'A fanciful but compassionate consideration of the treatment, and the mistreatment, of women in the late 19th century, [IN THE NEXT ROOM, OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY is a] spirited and stimulating (sorry) new comedy from one the country's brightest young playwrights.'" -The New York Times
The Play: At the dawn of the electrical age, a new medical device is developed to pacify "hysterical" women, but it produces a shockingly different result. This richly textured comedy about marriage, motherhood and the charged energy between our bodies was nominated for three 2010 Tony Awards and was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The Playwright: MacArthur Fellowship recipient Sarah Ruhl's plays include THE CLEAN HOUSE (Susan Smith Blackburn Award, 2004), MELANCHOLY PLAY, EURYDICE, LATE: A COWBOY SONG, and PASSION PLAY. In 2003, she was the recipient of a Helen Merrill Award and a Whiting Writers' Award.
Note: All seating is General Admission. The seating process will start approximately 10 minutes prior to curtain time. There is ABSOLUTELY NO LATE SEATING/NO REFUNDS for any Kitchen Dog production. This play contains adult situations and nudity. If you have special seating needs, please contact the KDT box office at 214-953-1055 before your reservation date so your request can be accommodated.
