The Comedy Lab featuring Phil Johnson and Big Al Gonzales
The Comedy Lab is a comedic playground featuring nationally touring comedians Phil Johnson and Big Al Gonzales. Both are working on brand new shows for upcoming DVD and CD releases in 2012. Come and be part of the creative process. Plenty of surprises in store, including a special musical performance by neo-soul artist Monica Marquis! www.monicamarquis.com
Note from Phil: This IS NOT going to be the kind of show where comedians read off a notebook in a monotone looking to see if it generates a reaction. We really don't like those shows. You will get a full fledged, professional quality comedy show in a safe haven, away from the prying eyes of the "comedy industry", where we can do comedy without a net. Tickets for this show are very inexpensive because it's more fun for you and us to have a full room.
Warning: If you're stupid or closed-minded, this isn't the show for you.
This show is also a benefit for GINA For Missing Persons Foundation which seeks to educate the public by utilizing entertainment to create awareness and media attention for missing persons world-wide, and to offer a source of information to help people whose family members become missing. $1 from each ticket will go to GINA. www.411Gina.org
Phil Johnson Bio: www.PhilJohnsonComedy.com Being human is a constant struggle between defining ourselves as individuals and trying to fit in with "the group"...
Phil Johnson, who has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, uses comedy and music to dissect that dilemma in both his own life and others.
In pieces like "Vertical Eyebrows", "Gangsta Pooh", and "State Hats" Phil discusses the challenges and rewards of being different and proud of it. Though sometimes people misplace their self-worth into meaningless objects like in "Truck Nuts".
But we also have to be concerned with how we relate to the thoughts and feelings of others around us. From dealing with new social issues ("Robots" and "Gay Children's Books") to keeping the relationship fire alive ("Bad Porno Sex" and "Geeks Don't Care").
Phil Johnson, like everyone else, sometimes gets it and sometimes wonders what the heck people are thinking. On stage his playful humor and likeable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience. In the end we can only be who we are, try to understand others, and hope they understand us.
